Govt buying wheat directly from Punjab farmers

MANSEHRA, May 9: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government started buying wheat directly from traders and farmers in Punjab, said Provincial Minister for Food Shujah Salim Khan here on Sunday.

Talking to journalists, he said that very soon the process would be started in province. “Keeping in view flour crisis in the province in the past, we took the initiative to purchase wheat directly from market,” he added.

The minister said that 0.3 million tonnes of wheat would be purchased directly from traders in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that the provincial government had bought 0.150 million tonnes last year and earned more than Rs15 million profit from it. He said that no shortage of flour was reported in any part of province.

“This year too a profit of Rs20 million is expected. The need of people in province will be also met,” Mr Khan said.

He said that provincial government would easily get its purchase target of 0.3 million tonnes of wheat. The procurement was started in Punjab and very soon the process would be started in province after the start of harvesting season, he added.

The minister said that terrorists wanted to create a sense of insecurity among the people to get their desired results but government’s resolve was firm to take to task the last terrorist.

He said that despite the challenge of militancy the provincial government had launched developmental projects to put the province on way to prosperity and development.
